Self-Ligating Braces are dramatically advanced in design and is an entirely new way of treating patients.
Traditional braces often require removal of healthy teeth and the use of palatal expanders to make space. This approach is often uncomfortable, takes longer and can leave a more narrow arch and a flat profile. Traditional braces are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable.
Self-Ligating braces are different. They don't use elastics to hold the archwire in place. Instead of elastic bands, Self-Ligating braces use small metal clips to hold the archwire into the bracket. This clip mechanism allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.
Self-ligating braces use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the arch wire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure being placed on the tooth and fewer adjustments are required because there are no elastics to replace.
Self-ligating braces are a great option for patients needing braces. Your orthodontist can help you determine which type of braces will be most effective for your smile. Please contact our practice to schedule your orthodontic consultation.
